10 Questions to Ask a CBSE School in Coimbatore Before You Enrol

Walking through the gates of a CBSE school in Coimbatore with your child’s admission form in hand feels exciting – and a little overwhelming.

Here are 10 questions we wish we had asked earlier.

1. What does a normal school day look like for a child in Class 1 (or Class 6)?

Ask for a real schedule, not a philosophy.  

A good CBSE school in Coimbatore will tell you:  

- How much time is spent on academics vs. activities  

- When kids play outdoors (not just in theory)  

- If homework starts right away or is phased in  

**Why it matters:** Your child’s daily experience will shape their love for school more than any lab or library.

2. How do you help children who fall behind?

Every school celebrates toppers. The best ones have a plan for everyone else.

Look for answers like:  

- Remedial classes  

- Extra teacher attention during free periods  

- Parent-teacher catch-up plans  

If they say *“that rarely happens here”* – walk away. Children learn at different paces, and that’s normal.

3. What is your teacher-to-student ratio in actual classrooms, not on paper?

Some CBSE schools in Coimbatore advertise 1:25 but pack 40+ kids after admissions close.

Ask to see a current classroom. Better yet, ask to speak to a Class parent.

**Human truth:** A great teacher with 35 kids will struggle. An average teacher with 20 kids can do wonders.

4. How much homework is given daily? Can you show me a sample week?

CBSE schools vary wildly here. Some believe in heavy worksheets. Others focus on reading and projects.

Ask for last week’s homework for your child’s target grade.  

If it looks like a copy-paste drill, your evenings will be a battle. If it’s thoughtful and limited, you just found a gem.

5. What happens during lunch and recess? Are teachers supervising or present?

This is where real social learning happens – and also where problems start.

A caring CBSE school in Coimbatore will tell you:  

- Who supervises  

- How they handle small fights or teasing  

- If children are allowed free play or kept in lines  

**Why it matters:** A lonely or anxious lunch break can ruin an otherwise good school.

6. How do you communicate with parents – and how fast?

Ask for specifics:

- How often do you get academic updates?  

- What if my child is upset – will you call me the same day?

That answer tells you more than any brochure ever could.

8. What do your students do during exams? How do you manage stress?

CBSE board exams (Class 10 and 12) are real pressure points.

Ask:  

- Do they have counsellors available daily during exam season?  

- Are students allowed to retake class tests?  

- Do teachers scold publicly or support privately?

Your child will spend years in this system. Make sure the school handles pressure with empathy, not fear.

9. How much time is actually spent on sports and arts each week?

Many CBSE schools in Coimbatore claim holistic education but quietly cut games before exams.

Ask to see the weekly timetable. Count the hours labelled “games,” “art,” “music,” or “library.”

**A good sign:** Sports are in the morning, not just after academics.  

**A red flag:** They say *“it depends on the child’s interest.”*

10. What do your current parents wish you did better?

This is your secret weapon.

If they give a thoughtful, humble answer – trust them more.  

If they say *“we have 98% satisfaction”* – ask to speak to three random parents from the parking lot.

A truly good CBSE school in Coimbatore won’t fear this question. They’ll welcome it.
